Big Basin Hike

A couple weekends ago Rich, Bob, and I went for a pleasant hike on the skyline to the sea trail in Big Basin Redwoods State Park. In a departure from my usual Big Basin hiking experience, we hiked inland from the Rancho Del Oso entrance in Santa Cruz just across the road from the beach (which was curiously dominated by kite surfers). Thus we departed from the beach, climbed the moderate trail into the mountains, and descended into the valley beyond. We paused beside Waddell Creek for a classic trail lunch in the company of Messrs. Milano and Tillamook. A satisfying return hike and an encounter with a bananna slug or two later, we emerged from the forest and set out for home in the borkmobile.
