Weekend Recap

The weekend began with a drive in the MG. This time around Bob joined me on a backroads tour to Gilroy with the Northern California MG Owners Club (MGOC). Along with about ten other MGs, we drove down for a guided tour of Pierce Manifolds.

Afterward, I ran a Junior Team Tennis event at the club. For the most part, everything went well. Unfortunately, one child may have broken a finger. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first serious injury to ever have occurred on court under my watch. Although it was accidental (and there was really nothing I could have done about it), I feel as though I should somehow have done more to prevent it from happening.

Later Bob, Rich, and I headed up to Oakland to watch Bob's friend Myra perform with an Irish jazz group. We arrived at the establishment and paid our cover charge only to realize that the group playing was not the one we had come to see. Yes, it was jazz; but not even remotely Irish jazz. My companions grumbled something about the singer drowning out the music as we departed. After contacting Myra, a strange story came to light. Apparently, the bar had double-booked (purportedly due to some absurd club politics); and her group didn't end up playing. At Myra's suggestion, we drove over to her place in Berkeley for a rousing game of scrabble accompanied by tea.

The three of us reconvened on Sunday for one of Alice's dance solos at the Starlight Dance Club. Alice and her instructor performed a wonderful quickstep routine set to the delightfully surprising sound of Michael Buble singing the Spiderman Theme. Along with Geoff, we formed a chorophobic quartet. Well, perhaps we don't fear dancing so much as we are terrible at it and have no great desire to improve. Bob noted that the trees swaying outside were better dancers than us. This assertion was widely accepted.

After obtaining sustenance at the Sonoma Chicken Coop, the three of us returned to Rich's abode for some cartoony merriment with the Warner Brothers and the Warner Sister, Dot. I must say that the recent Animaniacs video game is actually quite fun if you are sufficiently silly yourself.

I'm happy to report that my injured tennis player does not have any broken bones. He's still a bit sore, but doing just fine.
