And As I Watched the Drops of Rain...

Despite it's tendency to cancel my tennis schedule, I really appreciate the rain. Before those of you who experience an excessive amount of inclement weather beat me over the head, I readily admit that I enjoy the rain in the context of being a weather spoiled Northern Californian. It's just nice to have a different experience in the texture of our lives. The rain has such a wonderful rhythm--a natural sound with a pattern that changes pace and comes and goes at its whim.

In keeping with this feeling, I thought I'd add a little acoustic accompaniment that captures my mood. So if your sound is on and your browser so enabled, you're listening to to a beautiful song by Simon and Garfunkel called Kathy's Song. Its soft sound and frequent references to the rain call to me on days like these. My mind's distracted and diffused...

Here are the full lyrics to Kathy's Song:

I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls.

And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies.

My mind's distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you're asleep
And kiss you when you start your day.

And a song I was writing is left undone
I don't know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can't believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme.

And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I.
