Tursunov Beats Henman, Again

Dmitry Tursunov beat Tim Henman in an odd four set match, spanning two days in Paris. This French Open loss marks the third time that Henman has fallen to Tursunov in a Grand Slam. Tursunov, the 31 seed at Roland Garros, has now beaten Henman, a former top-ten player, in all of their meetings.

As you may recall from an earlier post, I once beat Tursunov in a scrimmage match in high school. Granted it was only a practice session and he was two years younger, but I've followed his career with some interest ever since.

Andrew Lilley wrote a colorful, partisan recounting of the match. I reproduce the first paragraph here for your enjoyment:

"Hope, potential, the odd flash of grit and determination coupled with a few lovely forehands, but ultimately all to no avail... Tim Henman, the last remaining Brit, fell in four sets to his Grand Slam nemesis Dmitry Tursunov in a two-day, four-set epic 6-3 6-2 4-6 6-4. Bring on the grass courts and 'Henman Hill'!"
