Wedding, Tennis Social, and Car Repair
A number of wonderful events took place yesterday. Most importantly, Manny and Jen got married in lovely ceremony in the amphitheater at Kelley Park. Afterward, a most enjoyable time was had by all at the reception. Congratulations to the happy couple.
Earlier in the day, I ran a junior-adult pizza and tennis social. Since almost all of the kids were playing with a parent, and it was supposed to be social tennis, it was my job to insure good matchups and diffuse any tension that might have arisen. I think I did well on both counts.
And continuing with the reverse chronological recounting, I got the MG going in the morning. Once again, Dan came over to help me troubleshoot. For a while, neither he nor I could find any obvious problems. So, after gapping and installing new plugs, off we went. Everything was fine until we turned onto Almaden Road and experienced a massive loss of compression accompanied by loud popping noises. The very same thing that had happened to me when I tried to take it out the first time after putting everything back together.
It took us a little while to realize that the culprit was an exhaust valve that I had adjusted but not tightened down sufficiently. Thus, the valve wasn't opening and exhaust wasn't being allowed to escape from that cylinder. Some quick valve adjustments later, the MG started up and ran great.
